Obsidian

Obsidian is lustrous volcanic glass from lava which has cooled quickly. Obsidian
is glassy and black, yet, when held to the light, you can see through all but the
most dense. Small sand-smoothed and roundish shaped pebbles of obsidian
are called Apache Tears for the legend that the earth cried when an Apache
warrior was killed in battle. Many varieties of Obsidian are available. Snowflake
is so called because of inclusions of the mineral phenocryst in white or light
gray patches which often look like flakes of snow lying within the material.
Silver-sheen, gold-sheen and peacock Obsidians are all varieties with various
inclusions that cause those specific colorations.
