Obsidian is lustrous volcanic glass from
lava which has cooled quickly. Obsidian
is glassy and black, yet, when held to the
light, you can see through all but the
most dense. Small sand-smoothed and roundish
shaped pebbles of obsidian
are called Apache Tears for the legend that
the earth cried when an Apache
warrior was killed in battle. Many varieties
of Obsidian are available. Snowflake
is so called because of inclusions of the
mineral phenocryst in white or light
gray patches which often look like flakes
of snow lying within the material.
Silver-sheen, gold-sheen and peacock Obsidians
are all varieties with various
inclusions that cause those specific colorations.
Obsidian is a powerful stone dedicated to
change, transformation,
metamorphosis, purification, fulfillment,
inner growth and introspection. He is
a teaching stone who exposes our rationalizations
and illusions about ourselves
and encourages us to face our faults in
order to correct them. Obsidian gets
us in touch with those parts of ourselves
we consciously keep hidden and
teaches us how to bring more Light into
darkness.
Obsidian is an excellent grounding stone
- provides connection from base
chakra to heart of the Earth. It works as
a shield against negativity, is a
personal protection stone to help prevent
emotional draining from others, and
helps protect the soft-hearted and gentle
people of the world from being
misused.
Like jet, you should not exchange your obsidian jewelry with another person.
It is not recommended as a pendant because
prevents easy flow of energy in
and out of the heart.
Black Obsidian balls are extremely powerful

People the blackness allows easier access
to the subconscious than a clear
Quartz crystal does.
