Calcite is the mineral Calcium Carbonate. It can crystallize in many forms but
best known as rhombohedron. It is a mirror to harmonic perfection - if you
drop a piece and it shatters, or if a piece chips off, it is still a perfect
rhomboid. Colors range from colorless or white, with no other compounds, to
green, pink, golden, etc. It releases electrical impulses when compressed and
is an energy amplifier. It also possesses a unique optical quality. Place a piece
of calcite over a line drawn on paper and the image appears to be doubled.

Magickally this "doubling" quality is used to "double the power" of the ritual.
Place on altar or wear for this purpose. Green Calcite is used in spells to draw
Prosperity. Place on altar and surround with flaming green candles. Do this for
a few minutes every morning. Clear calcite is used for focus during meditation.

Gold Calcite is used to deepen intellect, wisdom and psychic abilities,
channeling and higher consciousness.

Green Calcite is specifically a mental healer and can be used to reach mental
balance. It lends its healing green force to ease the old out and usher the
new in.

Clear calcite is to foster spirituality.

Pink Calcite is good for heart chakra, for releasing old fear and grief, bringing
in the essence of unconditional love.

In her books, Katrina Raphael speaks of calcite as being one third of the
"Mental Trinity" - Fluorite, Calcite & Pyrite. Fluorite to channel the intuitive
power of the mind into physical activity. Calcite to use when mental transitions,
adjustments, and alterations are taking place. Pyrite strengthens mental
capacity and develops the higher faculties of the human mind.

Calcite is very soft (can be scratched with a copper penny – it is the benchmark Number 3 on the Mohs Scale) and susceptible to breakage. It is also sensitive
to heat, water and sun so should be kept away from these elements.
